Security guard stabbed at Gold Coast shopping centre

A security guard is in a serious condition in hospital after allegedly being attacked with a meat cleaver at a Gold Coast shopping centre.

00:06 They say the security guard asked what officers described as a group of young people to leave

00:11 the centre earlier this morning after they were deemed to be causing a nuisance.

00:15 As he escorted them from the centre, police allege a male from the group used a meat cleaver

00:20 to stab the guard multiple times in the torso, legs and arms.

00:25 Bystanders and workers from nearby businesses rushed to the security guard's aid using towels

00:30 and tablecloths to stem the bleeding.

00:33 Meanwhile, the group fled in an allegedly stolen vehicle that was tracked north to Beanley

00:38 where a 19-year-old man and three juvenile girls were taken into custody.

00:43 They are now assisting police with their inquiries.

00:46 The 57-year-old security guard was taken in a serious condition to Gold Coast University
