00:00 Now can true love be found in 24 hours?
00:02 Well, that's what we're going to find out in the new rom-com film Wish You Were The One
00:07 starring the "Mapanakit" fandom of Bella Padilla and JC Santos.
00:11 Now this is their 6th film together after Isang Daang Dula para kay Stella,
00:16 The Day After Valentine's on Vodka, Beers, and Regrets,
00:19 366, and Miracle in Cell No. 7.
00:23 And I got to speak with both JC and Bella ahead of the film's release today.
00:27 And they told me more about their chemistry and what the new film is all about.
00:32 It's about two people. They met in a wedding as guests.
00:36 They went to the wedding just to see their exes.
00:41 Like my character here went to the wedding just to check that I have to go there with a girlfriend
00:46 because I'm going to meet my ex.
00:48 It just so happens that we're both looking for our exes.
00:52 So we decided that, "Oh, okay. Let's go. But it should be just 5 to 7 minutes."
00:56 So the whole movie is just one night.
01:01 Oh, one night.
01:03 Yeah. It's a journey that we questioned the idea that how—
01:08 We actually questioned the idea if we can fall in love,
01:13 we can find the right one in just 24 hours.
01:16 Can you find the right one in 24 hours?
01:19 For me, as Bella knows, for characters, I think yes.
01:25 Actually, I think that's one of the similarities I have with my character in this film, Astrid.
01:31 She also doesn't believe that you can fall in love in 24 hours.
01:35 So our characters are very different.
01:37 I think JC's character, Ellis, is hopeless romantic.
01:41 And I'm more of the realist of like, "No, I have goals to achieve.
01:46 This is what I need to do in life. I need to make money for my family."
01:50 So I think my character is more realistic.
01:55 So she also doesn't want to believe in a 24-hour love story.
01:59 You have been— Okay, six years. You started in 2017.
02:04 Isang daang tula para kay Stella, 'di ba?
02:07 Now, 2023, six years, six films.
02:11 Tell me how you attack each one because obviously, both of you love working with each other.
02:17 It's a given. It's really a given.
02:20 So how do you approach each one to make it seem like it's different and it's not like a continuation of your life?
02:28 Right. We're actually very conscious about that, only because we've done so many projects together.
02:34 So down to the smallest detail, even just the physical aspect of her character, we really try to change how we look.
02:40 It's hard, especially for example, for this script or for this project, JC was only informed one to two weeks before the start of our filming.
02:52 I was informed three weeks before. So it's not like we had so much lead time to day one.
02:57 But yeah, we're both very conscious. We always talk about it.
02:59 Like, "Huy, we did this night, Stella. We can't do this."
03:01 Or JC will call and say, "I've seen you do this before. Try this instead."
03:07 Oh, it's nice. At least both of you have each other's backs.
03:11 Yes. Some people would think that it's going to be easy for us because we know each other for a long time.
03:18 We've been in six films together.
03:20 So for me, it was a challenging one with this one because we know each other so well now.
03:26 There's a conscious effort to change.
03:28 Okay, let's do it again. Let's try this side.
03:32 Our characters are very complex this time. You can attack it in every way and it's going to work.
03:40 So for us, what's something new?
03:42 And then we keep challenging each other to the point that I realized that our improved skills became...
03:49 Our improved skills developed because we're already in that part of the journey.
03:56 As actors, we just explore it right away.
04:00 When I was looking into this film that you're doing and all the research,
04:06 one thing that pops out whenever you see Bella and JC is always the chemistry.
04:11 That seems to be the given, right?
04:16 First of all, can you create chemistry?
04:20 Have you worked with somebody, but you both are amazing actors and actresses.
04:26 Have you worked with somebody that had no chemistry but since I'm so good at it, I can wing it.
04:33 Has it ever happened to you?
04:35 Yes.
04:36 [Laughs]
04:39 No, I'm kidding.
04:40 Everyone I've worked with is super, way more than capable of pulling their weight.
04:46 But definitely, you can create chemistry.
04:49 We're just lucky that for us, it came naturally.
04:52 We didn't have to fake it from the first film.
04:55 I think our first scene on set in Stella, we already felt it.
05:00 Because you'll feel it before the scene starts.
05:02 It's like an electric charge.
05:04 I don't know how JC felt about it.
05:08 But for me, from the first scene in 2017, I already felt like, "Okay, this is going to be easy."
05:14 For me, looking for chemistry, I have one technique.
05:18 I find humor in every people.
05:23 I'm going to look for the things that we can laugh about.
05:26 Even if it's just a partner.
05:28 With Bella, it's easy.
05:29 We laugh about everything.
05:31 We cry about everything.
05:33 We can talk about anything.
05:35 But for us, when we were doing this, we never actually thought of chemistry.
05:41 It was just in 2017.
05:44 I don't think someone should work hard for it.
05:48 We should have chemistry.
05:50 We should do this.
05:52 Sometimes, it's just...
05:55 Don't look like you're trying hard.
05:57 Moving forward, you said that you are in London right now, Bella.
06:02 You're going to be back to shoot more films.
06:06 Yeah.
06:07 I was just told that I might fly back either end of September or start of October.
06:12 I don't know what JC's schedule is like yet.
06:15 But yeah, I'm working with JC on a new project.
06:19 Totally different genre.
06:21 It's exciting.
06:22 It's something we've never done before.
06:24 I think this also plays out well for us.
06:27 They like putting us in the same project.
06:29 They're now more conscious with giving us work that's different from what we've done.
06:33 I appreciate that a lot.
06:35 Also, we don't play partners in this.
06:37 We'll see what happens.
06:39 How out of the box would this be for both of you?
06:44 The film that's to come.
06:46 Is there a genre as well, aside from that, that you still want to do that you haven't done?
06:50 Okay, I'll leave that question to JC.
06:54 But the one we're about to do is a horror/psychological thriller.
06:59 So it's very different.
07:01 But JC has a really nice answer for his film that he still wants to do.
07:06 Okay, go, Jace.
07:07 We've been talking about it, Nazana.
07:09 They thought of us for something unusual, a sci-fi one.
07:14 A multi-universe where we met each other from the past to the future.
07:20 We can totally change characters so they can see the range we can do with our characters.
07:27 When you play in the 1800s or 1900s or wartime, you tend to change because the world is different.
07:36 So I hope we'll have a film like that.
07:40 We're putting it out there, we're pitching it to the people, whoever can hear us.
07:45 From the movies that you have done, how would you rank them?
07:49 Top 3 of the movies you've done together.
07:52 Oh my gosh, so hard.
07:53 I want to know because we have our favorites, but I don't know if you have your own favorites as well.
07:57 JC, you go first.
08:00 For my top 3, my number 3 is The Day After Valentine's.
08:09 My number 1 is On Vodka, Dears and Regrets.
08:16 So Stella's number 2 and vodka's number 1.
08:20 Yes.
08:23 Is that your favorite?
08:26 No, I have to bring my film into the list.
08:31 So 366 would be my number 3.
08:34 It's the first time I got to direct JC and it's such a joy.
08:39 So 366.
08:41 I'd say Vodka, Dears and Regrets is my number 2.
08:44 Stella would be number 1 for me because that's where we met.
08:47 So it's more sentimental.
08:49 I don't think the quality of the film is more superior than any of the other films we did.
08:55 It's because we met there on that set.
08:58 It looks like you guys are going to have a wonderful time and of course, I wish you were the one coming out August 23.
09:06 I'll give you a chance. I'm sure your fans would like to hear it from you rather than from me.
09:11 So do invite your friends to come out and watch this film.
09:14 All the people who supported us from the start, from the very beginning in 2017 when we made Isan Daang Tola Para kay Stella,
09:22 the day after Valentine's, Vodka, Dears and Regrets and 366.
09:26 Even from our TV series, with our MMK people who supported us from the beginning,
09:33 we're still inviting you.
09:34 This is going to be a different one.
09:36 Of course, this is our version of romantic comedy because we're always in a tragic romantic drama.
09:44 So this time, it's going to be fun for everybody.
09:48 This is going to be on August 23. It's directed by Derek Cabrillo.
09:51 To everyone who's watched our films, we see everyone comment every time we post anything Wish You Were The One related.
