00:00 EdTech company and academy has fired its teacher whose video has gone viral in which he could
00:05 be heard telling students to vote for an educated person in the upcoming elections.
00:10 Next time, choose a person who is educated, who can understand things.
00:18 Don't choose a person who only knows how to change, who only knows how to change names.
00:25 So, make your decision properly.
00:29 Karan Sangwan, a legal instructor at Unacademy also raised concern about the bills connected
00:36 to IPC and CRPC presented in the parliament.
00:40 In a video, the teacher urged students to support educated candidates in the future elections.
00:50 Following this appeal, Unacademy let go of the teacher, citing that the classroom
00:54 is an inappropriate venue for expressing personal opinions.
00:58 Roman Saini, co-founder of Unacademy group, emphasized the importance of learners and
01:02 explained that personal opinions should not be shared in the classroom as they can negatively
01:08 influence students.
01:09 The decision of part ways with Karan Sangwan was based on a violation of the code of conduct.
01:15 Saini also highlighted Unacademy's commitment to delivering high-quality education.
01:19 They have a rigorous code of conduct for educators to ensure that students have access to unbiased
01:24 knowledge.
01:25 But what exactly did Karan said in that video?
01:29 I also felt like crying or laughing because I also have a lot of my barracks, a lot of
01:34 case loads, a lot of notes we also made.
01:37 Okay, everyone has a lot of hard work, you guys also got work.
01:41 But remember one thing, next time when you vote, give your vote to an educated person
01:49 so that you don't have to go through all this again in life.
01:52 Okay, let's go.
01:56 Okay, next time, choose a person who is educated, who can understand things.
02:04 Don't choose a person who only knows how to change, who knows how to change names.
02:11 So, make your decision properly.
02:15 In a video snippet, the teacher mentioned, "I am unsure whether to laugh or cry due
02:20 to the extensive material I have prepared, barracks, case holds, and notes.
02:25 It's hard work for all.
02:27 You have responsibilities too."
02:29 He continues by saying, "Remember this, next time choose an educated person so you
02:33 can avoid a similar experience."
02:36 Karan also added, "Choose a person who is educated, who can understand things.
02:41 Don't choose a person who only knows how to change, who knows how to change names."
02:47 Select someone educated, capable of understanding matters.
02:50 Don't opt for someone who only knows how to change names.
02:54 Make your decision thoughtfully.
02:56 This is what he said in that video.
02:58 The teacher mentioned that he would provide further details about the controversy on
03:02 his YouTube channel on August 19th.
03:05 As the teacher has been fired from the Edtech company, several political leaders expressed
03:10 their opinion on social media.
03:11 Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, lashed out at Edtech
03:16 company Unacademy for sacking one of its teachers, Karan Sangwan, describing the move as shame
03:22 as his opinion would possibly influence young minds.
03:26 Taking to X, the Shiv Sena MP wrote, "How does saying 'vote for a literate politician'
03:30 a biased opinion?
03:31 Doesn't that opinion possibly influence young minds?
03:35 Shame if merely expressing this view gets you to take someone's job, Unacademy."
03:40 Don't understand why everyone felt Karan Sangwan, the professor's opinion on educated
03:45 leader was just about Mr. Supreme, repeat of Kajo-level trolling, but here it cost him
03:51 his job.
03:52 Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted questioning whether it's wrong to encourage
03:56 voting for educated politicians.
03:58 He expressed respect for the illiterate but emphasized that public representatives should
04:03 not lack education, especially in the age of science and technology.
04:07 Kejriwal highlighted that an educated leadership is crucial for building a modern 21st century
04:13 India.
04:14 Bayatish Reddy, the head of Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation,
04:18 also commented on X stating that suspending a teacher for urging against voting for illiterate
04:24 candidates is inappropriate.
04:26 He demanded a suitable explanation and raised the hashtag #UninstallUnacademy.
04:31 Roshan Rai, another user of X, also spread the news criticizing Unacademy for reportedly
04:36 dismissing Karan Sangwan simply because he encouraged students to vote for an educated
04:41 leader.
04:42 Rai pointed out that Sangwan did not mention anyone by name yet Unacademy inferred the
04:47 context.
04:49 Rai expressed strong disapproval calling it a shameful act.
04:52 Dr. Prachi Sadhvi, a member of Vishwa Hindu Parishad tweeted that there is no need to
04:57 uninstall Unacademy.
04:59 Instead, she praised the platform for firing the teacher, what she referred to as an anti-nationalist
05:04 teacher.
05:05 Shouldn't teachers, doctors, engineers, IT professionals and many others have the same
05:11 freedom of speech as politicians?
05:14 Article 14 of our constitution grants this freedom to every citizen.
05:18 Instead of firing the teacher, a warning or an internal review could have been done to
05:24 understand why he said that.
05:26 Firing him does not seem like the best solution.
