US President Joe Biden sealed new security cooperation with Japan and South Korea as he hosted the leaders of the Asian countries in three-way talks at Camp David. Biden also praised the "political courage" of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in turning the page on their historical animosity. Japan and South Korea have had strained relations dating back to Japan's 1910-1945 occupation of Korea. After the summit, the White House statement read, "We do so at a time of unparalleled opportunity for our countries and our citizens, and at a hinge point of history, when geopolitical competition, the climate crisis, Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, and nuclear provocations test us.”

01:19 The leaders also issued a sharply worded statement about Beijing's actions in the South China
01:24 Sea where China has claimed territory that according to international law belongs to
01:29 other countries.
01:30 China has also pledged to conduct military exercises in the region which could further
01:34 escalate tensions.
01:35 The three nations also agreed to set up an early warning system to share information
01:41 and coordinate on possible disruptions to global supply chains as well as to confront
01:46 and overcome economic coercion.
01:48 They also promised to hold trilateral summits annually.
01:52 One of several regional security challenges discussed during the Camp David talks was
01:56 North Korea.
01:57 The three leaders spoke forcefully in remarks to reporters about Pyongyang's nuclear and
02:02 other threats and said that they would cooperate to counter them.
02:06 They have also agreed to hold trilateral military training exercises annually and to share real-time
02:11 information on North Korean missile launches by the end of 2023.
