00:00 Are you looking to shake up the way you stream your movies in TV and maybe even save some
00:04 money?
00:05 Well, there is a growing list of streaming services out there with plenty of content
00:10 that you can watch for free.
00:13 Kara Nicholas, like a lot of us, pays for too many TV streams.
00:16 I think I have like seven or eight different streaming services now.
00:20 Max and Hulu and then sometimes Netflix.
00:23 Disney Plus too.
00:24 But now this young advertising exec wants to cut back because the writer's strike means
00:29 fewer new shows.
00:31 So she's checking out some free services that offer thousands of old movies and series.
00:36 So you're using this time to find things that you missed 10 years ago?
00:40 Yes.
00:41 Go back to the 90s.
00:42 Consumer Reports helped us out by rounding up some of the best free streaming services
00:46 available now, including Amazon Freebie, Crackle, Pluto TV, Tubi TV, and the Roku channel, just
00:54 to name a few.
00:55 CR says you won't find recently released films or popular HBO shows, but you will get
01:00 decent variety all for free.
01:03 In exchange, you'll be watching more ads.
01:06 You're even starting to see right now some companies promoting the fact that, oh, we
01:10 only have, you know, three ads per hour or something like that.
01:13 Now, if you're thinking, I really don't want to have to subscribe to another two, three
01:17 or four services, the reality is.
01:19 That a lot of those streaming free services have a lot of the same content.
01:24 That means both free services and the giants like Netflix and Hulu have to differentiate
01:29 their content while also offering affordable options.
01:32 Clearly, consumers are hitting a threshold in terms of how much money they're willing
01:36 to pay each month.
01:37 Kara says those free services can keep you entertained, strike or no strike.
01:41 There is never a shortage of content.
01:43 And that way you don't waste your money.
01:44 I'm John Matariz.
