00:08 on Monday July 31st. Here are the top three stories from across East and West Sussex today.

00:14 First, police are appealing for witnesses following a serious house fire in Helsham.

00:20 Emergency services were called after a fire broke out at an address in Station Road in

00:24 the early hours of Sunday morning, July 30th. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews

00:30 attended and fortunately no one was injured but the property suffered extensive damage

00:34 as a result of the fire. Police are now working with the fire service to investigate the cause

00:39 of the fire and officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened

00:42 or witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area around that time.

00:47 Next, Sussex Police are investigating after a man reported being assaulted in the Brawfield

00:56 area of Crawley. Police said a 42-year-old man was blunted at Crawley Hospital at 8.40am

01:02 on June 25th with an injury consistent with a stabbing. It is believed the incident took

01:07 place at around 7.40am in Fennell Crescent and the victim reported being approached and

01:12 assaulted by a man riding a motorcycle who then left the scene. The suspect is described

01:18 as a skinny white man in his late teens or early twenties with blonde hair, 5ft7, wearing

01:23 a light-coloured long-sleeved top and light-coloured tracksuit bottoms.

01:28 And finally, the fountain in Crawley Town Centre looks likely to stay dry for the fall

01:32 summer in a row. The fountain was installed in autumn 2017 but only worked for two summers

01:39 with technical issues and the pandemic preventing it from working. A council meeting was told

01:44 that a flood in the plant room in November 2021 had filled it to the ceiling, damaging

01:51 the equipment which controls the fountains as well as some of the surrounding electrical

01:54 supplies. Repairs were said to be significant and not a simple solution.
