Tesla Inflating Range Estimates

Tesla has intentionally inflated range estimates in its vehicles using programmed algorithms to show more optimistic driving distance projections. However, the cars often fail to achieve the advertised range, especially in cold weather. To manage the increasing number of customer complaints about poor driving range, Tesla created a "Diversion Team" in Las Vegas, whose sole purpose was to cancel range-related service appointments. The team aimed to save Tesla money by avoiding unnecessary repairs and reducing the pressure on the service centers, which had long appointment wait times. Tesla has been fined for falsely advertising its range in South Korea and criticized for not providing accurate range estimates to customers.
