00:00 Our workstation has 4 A1000 GPUs, RTX 1000.
00:06 It is being used for training.
00:10 It can be accessed from anywhere.
00:12 It is remote accessed.
00:16 Compared to an ordinary computer, how powerful is this?
00:21 How many times more powerful?
00:23 I can say that it is 100 times more powerful.
00:25 If we do our deep learning model in an ordinary CPU or GPU,
00:31 it can reach minutes or hours.
00:34 Here, it is just a matter of seconds.
00:37 What is the thing that you have been computing for a long time?
00:42 It is deep learning.
00:44 We train for a day, an hour.
00:48 Before, we left our laptop for a day.
00:51 You train for the predictive model of the water level?
00:56 Including input features such as rain, water, and other inputs.
01:02 So, you will make a predictive model of the rain, water level,
01:10 and in one hour, this will be the level.
01:14 First question, Director. First, how important is this center for building our resources,
01:24 especially for artificial intelligence?
01:26 Why Bicon? Why CTS-CTS-UB was the grantee of this project?
01:32 First, artificial intelligence has already reached a wide audience.
01:39 In fact, it is for basic. It is in our cellphones.
01:42 We do it all the time. Online shopping.
01:44 You will be surprised. It already lists down the things that you thought you need.
01:50 That is how intelligent systems are being employed in artificial intelligence tools
01:58 or deployed in artificial intelligence tools.
02:00 So, the question probably is that why perhaps community development?
02:06 The reason why we approved such a proposal is exactly because they have a niche.
02:14 They wanted to have more applications that involves communities and their challenges
02:20 and their aspirations.
02:23 So, if we say community, it serves, artificial intelligence should actually serve the needs of the communities.
02:31 The needs to be safe, the need to be secure, the need to be developed and economically progressive.
02:39 And as far as we know, there are no other artificial intelligence research centers
02:46 that are attempting to develop tools and applications that will ultimately benefit communities.
02:54 And why Bicol? Because they had an idea. They were the first to present the idea that
03:01 artificial intelligence can be relevant even in our future.
03:07 How immediate are the effects of the benefits of the project?
03:13 Actually, the project implementation is not easy.
03:17 Since we need to have a responsible AI.
03:22 So, we need to make sure that the decision support system that we are going to use is
03:29 knowledge and information on that.
03:32 The generated forecast is substantial.
03:35 And we should make sure that it gives the right information.
03:44 Because if we provide a premature forecasting for them, it will affect the people.
03:54 So, we need to make sure that our forecast is accurate.
04:02 So, now, based on your own expertise and opinion and experience,
04:10 can you forecast when that will happen?
04:14 Yes. We need to collect data for a span of a year in order for us to gather more accurate data.
04:26 Because if we gather only for 6 months, the weather will change.
04:30 And we have summer and rainy season.
04:33 So, we need all those seasons for the good duration of that year.
04:38 We will make sure that we will not expect a typhoon.
04:45 But we will use that data to train.
04:49 We are very proud that we come to Missouri as the lead province for doing NCSPCs among the state universities
04:57 together with our other leading divisions, such as the NAB and NACA, UNC and NCF,
05:04 and other higher education institutions.
05:08 Because we believe that the opportunities are there.
05:15 And we can take advantage of these opportunities.
05:21 We can take advantage of the AI technology.
05:24 We can take advantage of the other disciplines that our state universities have.
05:28 The Commission on Higher Education, Chairman Poi De Vera, said that he wants to increase the research output
05:35 of colleges and universities to make them more internationalized.
05:39 With this project, how will CSPC/PSUB help in internationalization of colleges and universities in the country?
05:52 Actually, this is one challenge that we are now giving in TETOS with our internationalization program
06:00 and the diversification of needs with our partner institutions now.
06:05 We know for a fact that our respective programs are now building stronger ties with prospective partners abroad.
06:16 And besides, just like with the research we have in the College of Computer Science,
06:23 we have had MOA signing just yesterday with an institution, an upcoming one again by August 14.
06:30 Two colleges, universities in Indonesia for that matter, Dave, are partnering specifically for the College of Computer Science
06:39 for student-faculty exchange and even research collaboration.
06:43 So I think this is to address the call of the Commission on Higher Education, ensuring that attention perhaps should be given.
06:54 In fact, in my recent Board of Trustees meeting, I got reminded by the Chair and members of the Board of Trustees
07:01 to look into how the CSPC now is working on its internationalization.
07:08 So basically, we have positioned our institution with ASEAN and beyond.
07:16 And in this continuing effort, we would want to see CSPC making marks in the different places in the world.
07:25 As I was reminded also to work on the QS rankings, which is actually a pervasive effort
07:34 where this research, I think, and other researches of our young, but intelligent and smart faculty are now doing.
07:44 And that's why I have here our VP for Research and Extension, Dr. Salazar, and our VP for Admin
07:50 to ensure that we have the needed funding. And if we do not have the needed funding, we go to DOST for more funding.
07:58 So that all these efforts are building on research capability of our faculty will make an impact,
08:05 not just here in the community, not just in Bicol region or in the country, but in the world.
