00:03 It's Thursday, so that means it's time

00:05 for Pet of the Week with Nick Cohen

00:06 from Kern County Animal Services.

00:08 Now today, we are literally walking you

00:10 through the adoption process when you visit their facility.

00:13 Let's check it out.

00:15 (upbeat music)

00:17 - Every day at the Kern County Animal Shelter,

00:19 we receive somewhere between 30 and 50 dogs for intake.

00:24 The public brings in a pet,

00:25 they are placed in some intake holding kennels

00:27 that are outside.

00:28 (upbeat music)

00:31 And those intake holding kennels are where we keep the dogs

00:45 until a staff can vaccinate them

00:47 against parvo and distemper.

00:49 Check the sheet, see where it came from.

00:51 (upbeat music)

00:53 We escort the animal into an exam room.

00:58 (upbeat music)

01:00 They're gonna do the examination.

01:15 They're gonna weigh the dog.

01:17 They're gonna deworm the dog.

01:18 They're gonna scan it for a microchip.

01:22 They're gonna take a picture.

01:23 (upbeat music)

01:26 (dog panting)

01:28 And at that point,

01:32 they're gonna take the animal into a kennel

01:33 with so many animals coming to us

01:35 and so many animals in the animal shelter already.

01:37 It's a big process that takes place.

01:39 Each and every time we receive an animal

01:40 at the Kern County Animal Shelter,

01:42 we receive about 12 to 15,000 animals a year.

01:45 So that's what happens each and every time.
