00:00 NGC was knocking on WASA's door for years with intentions to help.
00:04 That's according to Chairman Ravindran Nanga, who says two weeks ago conversations took
00:09 place outlining the scope within which NGC could be of assistance.
00:14 In terms of pipeline integrity, asset integrity and things like that.
00:19 And the intervention came at a very opportune moment because as they met on the Monday,
00:24 the Tuesday we had the failure of our pipeline in Karani.
00:27 Approximately 250,000 people were affected by that incident.
00:32 The talks have led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
00:36 Nanga says with NGC on board, such situations can be prevented as it would allow the authority
00:42 to determine beforehand the status of its pipelines before leaks occur.
00:47 He notes that it falls in line with the smart water network WASA has planned as part of
00:52 its transformation process.
00:54 To automate for example the scheduling where human intervention can cause issues at times
01:01 so that they have indicated that they are willing to share their technology with us.
01:06 NGC has around 1,000 kilometers of pipelines to monitor and the company is ranked above
01:12 average in its field.
01:14 Its President Mark LeKwan says the right software resources and structure are elements that
01:20 have been developed over time.
01:22 So before things happen, you will recognize that there are mechanisms that lead to pipelines
01:30 changing in terms of thickness and corrosion and that software allows you to basically
01:35 prioritize based on risk.
01:38 WASA is also anticipated to benefit NGC with its goal to mitigate climate change and advance
01:43 the green agenda as WASA monitors water resources.
01:47 NGC is launching a portal very soon, it's called CARP, Climate Adaptation and Resilience
01:54 Portal which will have all the patterns are changing, meteorological data, high tides,
02:00 low tides, it's for the public, it's for everyone to see how we can adapt while we
02:06 attend to pipelines and fixing water flows and so on.
02:11 We can also look at information on water and patterns and use the satellites that NGC is
02:18 using.
02:19 NGC is presently working with WASA to resolve problems at the Karani Water Treatment Plant.
