00:00 Well, this is pretty cool. The current dance alliance is hosting their seventh
00:04 annual books in motion program, and this is made to improve literacy
00:08 throughout Kern County through dance. 23 abc's Ava Kirshner joins us live in
00:13 studio to tell us more for this week's books in motion spotlight. Oh yeah,
00:18 that's right. Brian books in motion performers. Dat crew are one of the
00:22 groups doing shows across libraries in Kern County, telling stories through
00:26 their choreography. But they tell me their main goal is to inspire.
00:30 Our whole team is like a big family that like left to inspire people. You
00:40 know, meet dat crew, a nonprofit organization founded back in 2014
00:45 teaching young dancers how to express themselves for almost 10 years. We do
00:50 major at clown dancing, we do hip hop and we also do cramp issue style dance.
00:56 We just embrace what we do and love inspiring the youth and let them
01:00 express themselves through art and different types of dancing. So they
01:04 learn pretty much a lot of different type of dancing, not just what we give
01:08 them. That crew has multiple performances at libraries across Kern
01:11 County for the current dance alliance books in motion program. By bringing
01:15 the stories to life, they help Children understand the books without having to
01:19 read them by being creative through their character representations and
01:23 movement. It's important because it's awesome to bring the books to life and
01:28 then so the kids could get more of an understanding of what they're reading.
01:31 Like, oh, okay, there's, there's an animal over there and they're dancing
01:34 and they're doing this type of movement. So they'll be more interested in
01:37 reading and learning more about the book. That crew created a dance for
01:41 these performances, which they gave me a little lesson on how to do

01:52 Yeah,
01:53 yeah,
01:56 yeah,
01:58 buddy,
02:00 these dancers have been working hard and traveling all around the county for
02:05 the performances, but they don't mind because dancing to inspire is what they
02:09 love to do. What I love to do is learn new things. What I love about dancing
02:15 is we could practice and practice makes better and we can make people follow
02:20 the dreams. What I love about this is that I could inspire other people to
02:25 dance.
02:26 Now, 23 abc is a proud sponsor of books in motion and every week we will
02:32 continue to shine a light on these performers to follow along. You can
02:36 tune in on air and online at turn to 23 dot com live in studio. Ava Kirschner,
02:40 23 abc News connecting you.
