Heat Dome Scorches Southwest

The formation of a new "heat dome" over the southwestern United States is expected to bring scorching temperatures to California and Arizona. California's Death Valley, one of the hottest places on Earth, could see temperatures ranging from 125°F to 130°F. At the same time, parts of the Central Valley in California and Phoenix, Arizona, may experience temperatures as high as 117°F and 118°F, respectively. The National Weather Service has issued excessive heat warnings for various regions, indicating an extreme heat risk. This heat dome phenomenon is caused by a high-pressure surge that traps ocean heat over land. The planet recently experienced its hottest June on record, with a consecutive streak of above-average temperatures extending to 532 months. Officials urge the public to take precautions and stay hydrated while avoiding prolonged sun exposure.
