GM and Samsung SDI to Build , EV Battery Manufacturing Plant in Indiana.
IN Gov. Eric Holcomb made the
announcement on June 13, Reuters reports.
GM and Samsung SDI will invest
over $3 billion in the EV battery plant.
Operations are scheduled to begin in 2026.
The plant, which will be located near
New Carlisle, IN, is expected to create 1,700 jobs.
It will attempt to reach
"an annual production capacity of
30 gigawatt hours (GWh)," Reuters reports.
Yoonho Choi, Samsung SDI CEO,
issued a statement.
Securing Indiana as a strong
foothold together with GM, Samsung SDI will supply products featuring the highest level of safety and quality in a bid to help the U.S. move forward to an era of electric vehicles, Yoonho Choi, Samsung SDI CEO, via statement.
GM is also working with LG Energy Ultium Cells LLC to build plants in Michigan and Tennessee after opening one in Ohio. .
GM anticipates that it will be able to build
1 million electric vehicles per year in
North America in 2025, Reuters reports.
