‘Godzilla-like’ lizards cause traffic jam as they fight in middle of road

Two Godzilla-like monitor lizards duelled in the middle of the road, causing a traffic jam.Footage shows the fierce reptiles fighting to tackle each other while drivers and motorcycle riders stopped to wait for them to finish in Nakhon Pathom province, Thailand on May 18.One truck driver, apparently in a hurry, honked at the animals before they chased each other to the grassy roadside.Driver Bon Fraudduan said: ‘There was a boxing match, and we all stopped to watch.'Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans. The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
