Nam's Match 1- Kids Battle April 2023

  • last year
This was Nam's first competition ever. He really, really wanted to compete once Kha started, and though I wasn't sure that he was ready, I figured this was the perfect little low-key competition for him to start in.

Some of the kids he was more similar to, but he wasn't really prepared for the level of intensity he faced in his opponents. It surprised him and then he lost which he also hated, hence his refusal to get up at the end.

But he got get up, and sat in my lap and moped and cried quietly for a bit, and then voluntarily did another match with a different kid where he did better. I think because his brother had won so handily in all of his matches, Nam just assumed he would do the same, even though Kha's been much more focused and has been working much harder.

It was a good experience for him; eye opening. I'm glad we entered him. He decided that he loves Jiu-Jitsu and winning and hates losing. So his plan is to focus and work harder at practice going forward.
