Lizzie "Kid" Douglas and her husband Joe McCoy were discoverd by a Columbia talent scout in 1929. They recorded for Columbia in New York in 1929 and it was then that Lizzie changed her name to Memphis Minnie. Her career spanned 30 years during which she held top billing as a blues artist and made over 180 records. In 1980, she was one of 20 artists inducted into the blues hall of fame.
