Kraan – Flyday (1978) [Germany, Krautrock/Jazz Rock/Jazz Fusion]

After a brief period of separation, during which Hellmut Hattler recorded his solo album "Bassball", Kraan came together again in the autumn of 1978. The result was the album "Flyday", one to anticipate it right away, through-grown work. With "Far West" it starts quite promising, a fast, jazzy instrumental piece with beautiful guitar work. "My Brother Said" is a rather simple knitted rocksong. The following "trip" is a little more jazzy, at a more restful pace. In the second half, it is growing at a bit faster.

"Gayu Gaya" is still quite nice, but then it becomes an unsuccessful attempt to introduce ethno elements into the music. A few nice guitars are a bit reconciled, but above all the annoying singing proves to be a disturbing element. "You're Right" is not much better, somehow it sounds to me as if you were inspired by Santana's "Oye Como Va" (not in the sense that parts of it were copied) without reaching its quality.

"Buy Buy" rattles rather unconcernedly and suffers as well as the final title under the not convincing singing. After all, Peter Wolbrandt brings out a lot of the guitar.
