00:30But there's one particular member of the weasel family that's stocky, strong, and really, really tough.

00:41They're in any terrain. The shores, the mountains, or in the woods.
00:47This is a wolverine.
00:49It's not a wolf. It's not a small bear.
00:51It's actually a member of the weasel family.
00:53A mustelid.
00:54And wolverines have awesome creature powers.
01:00Wolverines are true northern creatures.
01:02They live in boreal forests, far up north, all around the globe,
01:06where their incredible endurance lets them patrol massive territories.
01:11Wolverines are long-distance runners.
01:13They cover a lot of ground.
01:15A wolverine's territory can be hundreds of square miles.
01:18They're not a huge animal, not compared to wolves or grizzly bears.
01:22But these wolverines are so tough, so ferocious, so brave, and so strong with a powerful bite,
01:29they are willing to take on a wolf or a grizzly bear that's many, many times its size.
01:35But wolverine is one power-packed creature.

23:08And we learned a lot about territories!
23:11That some animals, like wolverines, have enormous territories!
23:16And other animals, like reindeer, live in smaller areas!
23:19It's all based on how big an area they need in order to find all the things they need to
23:24survive!

23:42So they're roaming across the rugged terrain of the Great North.
23:46Wolverines are a powerful predator with outside strength and a tough, don't-mess-with-me attitude.
23:56Wolverines have a great sense of smell.
23:58That's how they find a lot of their prey.
24:00They roam around their territory, smelling, smelling for any sign of prey.
24:07Sometimes what they do when they're hunting big prey, like moose or caribou or reindeer,
24:11is they'll jump from a tree limb onto the back of the moose and take it down.
24:17It's amazing!
24:18But they also eat carrion.
24:20Carrion is meat from animals that have already died.
24:23And in the winter, they can smell carrion under feet and feet of snow.
24:28Wolverines are up and active all winter long through some of the coldest, harshest weather.
24:34Bears go into a deep sleep for most of the winter, but not the wolverine.
24:38The wolverine toughs it out and is able to find food with either its amazing hunting skill
24:43or by uncovering animals that have been unable to survive the cold winter.
