A tsunami occurred off the coast of Stromboli, producing a tsunami wave about one and a half meters high. The tsunami may have originated from the platoon at Sciara del Fuoco. Alarms sounded on the island, but no damage was reported, according to preliminary data from Civil Protection.

Around 4 pm, a powerful eruption occurred at the volcano. The inhabitants of the island clearly heard the roar of the eruption, followed by an imposing column of smoke and ash rising from the volcano's crater and visible from the nearby islands.

"I have heard from the mayor of the island and am in contact with the head of the civil protection agency," said Nello Musumeci, Minister of Civil Protection and Marine Policy. Fortunately, the news from Stromboli is reassuring: the wave this afternoon.

“It is comforting to know that the alarm systems are working and the municipal operations center has been set up immediately. As a precaution, we are working to provide temporary shelter for the approximately thirty citizens who were invited to leave their homes,” he adds.
