Receding ice leaves Canada's polar bears at rising risk

In summer, polar bears in Canada are on the front line of climate change. Every year, starting in late June when the bay ice disappears, they have to move onto these shores to begin a period of forced fasting, a phase which is lasting longer and longer as temperatures rise -- putting them in danger's way. Climate warming is affecting the Arctic three times as fast as other parts of the world -- even four times, according to some recent studies. So sea ice, the habitat of the polar bear, is gradually disappearing.
