Cyprus, a small island nation in Mediterranean Sea got independence from Britishers in 1960 but it got involved in racial politics and dispute between it's Greek and Turkish population. Bloody skirmishes took place in which large numbers of people lost their lives and thousands displaced. When the conflict deepened and government there failed to come up with any solution, Turkey started an armed invasion in the nation. In just few days Turkey established control over 37% of the territory. It led to a mass displacement of population based on their race. Decades after country is still divided in two parts and all the attempts to solve the dispute have been failing.
