This couple built an inceredible DIY wooden wall surround for their electric fireplace. At first, they determined where they wished to affix the fireplace. They drew lines to affix the rear frame onto the wall and aligned the side frame and the front frame of the surround to it. They covered the top of the frame using plywood and left space in the bottom to install the electric fireplace. Later on, after installing the fireplace, they affixed a tv mount to the top of the frame and latched the tv to it, which further enhanced the appearance of the wall surround.

00:00 Hey guys, welcome back to my channel. I know I have not seen y'all in a while.
00:05 Y'all know these projects that we do they take time and they take money so
00:11 unfortunately I can't put out projects back to back to back like I would want
00:15 to. You know you gotta wait till your funds get right sis. But we are here. Time
00:21 for another project. So y'all know we did the kitchen and the kitchen looks great
00:25 but now that my kitchen is more modern contemporary the living room has to
00:32 match. So we are done with farmhouse style. We are starting to get rid of all
00:38 of that. So right now I am going to be installing an electric fireplace. So for
00:46 this electric fireplace we wanted to build a surround for the fireplace and
00:51 not just like a fireplace mantle but a surround that's gonna span from the
00:55 floors to the ceiling. So yeah so that's what we're doing. Of course Antonio is
01:00 here. We actually have already cut our pieces to make this simple as possible
01:07 for any of you all that want to try this. But it's pretty simple. It's not a
01:13 hard project at all. But uh yeah so that's what we're doing. So let's go. Oh
01:20 too bright. Alright y'all so this is what we are starting with. We're taking
01:30 everything down from right here. We're gonna move that out the way and then
01:36 we're gonna start putting up the frame. Focus. Alright there we go. So I just want
01:45 to show y'all real quick. So the first thing that we did we came in and found
01:49 all of our studs. I take that back. The first thing that we did we determined we
01:57 determined center for our wall and determined where we wanted the fireplace
02:03 to sit. So once we did that we marked all of the studs where the studs are. Let me
02:11 show you all we did was find the studs and then we drew lines all the way up so
02:17 when we put our first boards on we know where to screw them on to. So what we're
02:22 doing first these boards are what size Antonio? I forgot. 1 by 8. So we got 1 by 8
02:28 and we cut those down to 6 feet because that is the size that we want. Now that
02:35 is going to be dependent upon what size fireplace you get, what size your TV is.
02:41 So our boards are 6 feet because that would enable our fireplace and TV to sit
02:48 onto this bump out yeah bump out that we're creating. So we cut these boards
02:53 to 6 feet. We're going to put them going all the way up the wall and then we'll
02:58 show y'all the next part.
03:01 [Music]
03:31 All right y'all so I have decided that I don't like it like this. What I'm not
03:40 liking is I just really wanted this to be really slim not protruding as much.
03:48 Now the reason that my measurements were like this at first were because of these
03:54 cabinets that I'm going to have on the side of it and I wanted the fireplace to
03:59 be more prominent and I wanted the cabinets to sit back. But now that we've
04:04 gotten the wood up and I'm looking at it of course this is going to be all
04:09 closed in and to me it's just it's too much of a protrusion. All right y'all so
04:17 I am much happier. So now you can see it is much more thinner than before which
04:31 this is what this is the look that I was going for.
04:36 [Music]
04:50 So now we're building the we did the side frame so now this is going to be
04:56 the front frame. Trying to get my shadow out of the way. Okay so you can see we're
05:02 building it here on the ground because it'll be easier to put it together and
05:05 stand it up just like we did the other one. So this open space down here is
05:09 where the fireplace is going to go and this up top is we're just building
05:17 support for the TV and all of that good stuff. So just wanted to show you this
05:21 part and we're going to go hoist it up and screw it in.
05:27 [Music]
05:56 [Music]
06:08 Alright y'all so here is what it looks like with the front frame. So with the
06:15 front frame what you'll see so this the first side frame you see is laid
06:22 forward facing and then for the front frame we turned it to the side and then
06:33 just framed all the way around. Let me back up y'all can see yeah so we framed
06:41 all the way around. So now the fireplace is going to go here but we're going to
06:48 do it the easy way. What we're going to do is set the fireplace in there and
06:53 then just put our wood up against it to determine where it goes instead of
06:58 trying to we didn't want to try to make the hole for the fireplace and put it up
07:02 just in case it wasn't snug like we want it. So we're going to put the fireplace
07:06 in place and then determine where we want our 2x4s to go that we're going to
07:12 drill it to. So yeah. Hey y'all so I'm just bringing y'all up to speed so we put the
07:18 fireplace in place and we didn't like how low it was sitting on the floor so
07:23 we just built this we just built it up a little bit so it'll sit there not too
07:31 high but not completely on the floor. So we did that and then all we did was
07:35 nail in well we actually screwed in the frame around the side so just wanted to
07:42 bring y'all up to speed and then when we actually set the fireplace in there I'll
07:46 make sure to record that part. Alright y'all so to close in the fireplace we're
07:52 just using this sanded plywood it's really thin we have used this several
07:57 times we used it when we did the shiplap in the living room so we are just going
08:02 to cut this down you can use a scale saw like Toneo has there we also have a
08:06 table saw but these pieces are pretty big and we didn't want to it's a little
08:12 bit too flimsy to set up there on the table saw right so he's just going to
08:16 use a skill saw and then this guide that he has so it'll keep him it'll keep him
08:21 in line so that's how we're cutting our strips that's how we're gonna close it
08:25 all in

09:01 [Music]
09:06 all right y'all we got it all framed in so now we get to put in the fireplace
09:13 [Music]
09:16 [Music]
09:19 [Music]
09:22 [Music]
09:25 [Music]
09:28 you don't have no wood over there?
09:36 yeah I got enough
09:38 I don't
09:40 it's alright
09:42 it moved on us
09:44 it moved on us?
09:46 is that what it did?
09:48 [Laughter]
09:50 okay so it's in there but our measurements might have been a tad off because we don't have any wood to secure it on this side but we do on that side but we'll um we'll work it out
10:03 Tony will hook up something I'm sure so the type of fireplace this is okay my bad I
10:12 know who's about to do that so the type of fireplace this is and I think a lot of
10:15 them come like this um you secure it in you screw it in and then um this is the
10:23 glass and the glass just sits on top on these hooks so go ahead oh okay I see
10:33 what it did so the wood was a little bit on this side so he just went in at an
10:38 angle to catch it so it's in there it is all secure I'm so excited I've been
10:49 wanting to do this for the longest and now it is pretty much done um I will not
10:55 be leaving it like this I do need to place a order and I'll show y'all how I'm
11:00 going to cover the wall I also here is a sneak peek so um let me show y'all so it
11:13 did come with the remote but this one is also it has a touch it's a touch button
11:21 there well that's a sneak peek of it and Tony oh you'll flip through the colors
11:29 and I think it had like nine or ten different color settings or something
11:39 like that it had quite a bit and you see it came with the wood log and it came
11:49 with the crystals as well so now I'm just trying to decide which one do I
11:55 want crystals or the wood log so also with the color settings it dims and
12:02 brightens so yeah there it is it's dimming you also have a timer can y'all
12:11 hear Tony hour two hours three hours four hours five hours six hours oh right
12:19 here eight hours okay so it has a timer on it so you can set however long you
12:26 wanted to run so if you want to run for an hour or whatever you can do that of
12:31 course and of course yes it does have heat so yeah the heat comes on right
12:36 there which we do not need right now because it has been so hot here in
12:40 Florida but y'all know the winter time is coming up so this is perfect timing
12:44 so we will definitely be getting to use the heat function soon but yeah it's a
12:49 really cool fireplace again I got it from Amazon and I will definitely link
12:55 it below if y'all are interested but I got this one because it came with all
12:59 the features the stone and the crystals and the color and all that different
13:05 stuff and this one is um 50 inches it's a 50 inch fireplace and we got that one
13:13 because we wanted it to be we didn't want our we wanted to be kind of
13:20 comparable with the TV so our TV is 65 inches so we just thought like a little
13:26 one like a 30 inch it would just look too small so we got this one so this is
13:30 a 50 inch
13:33 you
13:35 so we also got this mount from Amazon as well and it pulls out and it tilts and
13:45 shifts and all that good stuff and what size this one holds up to 70 inches so
13:51 this one will hold up to a 70 inch TV so again I'll have all everything that we
13:57 purchased linked below if you need you'll see we also have an outlet
14:05 installed if you guys do not know how to do electrical I will not advise on that
14:12 I will say contact somebody that knows how to run you some electrical but if
14:19 you don't another thing that we're about to do we're gonna put a little hole in
14:24 the wall here we're gonna put another hole because we do have some other
14:29 cords like the what is it the ethernet cable or whatever that runs to our our
14:36 wireless box so we're gonna run put another little hole in here and then
14:41 we'll be able to feed it through so we won't have any cords hanging on the
14:45 front side and then here on the side we still have to put this side up but we
14:51 are going to leave a part of it where we can easily access it so kind of like a
14:58 little access point right there from the side so yeah so if you don't know how to
15:04 run electrical don't worry about it just put you a little hole in there and then
15:08 you can run your cord straight down to your outlets that are already on your
15:13 wall all right so it is a few days later and this is how it is looking now
15:20 I am very very pleased with it let me show you guys what I was telling you
15:26 about the holes so back here we drilled a hole and we just fished it down and
15:34 then on the side right here we put another hole so then we were able to
15:41 fish out our wires for our internet but yeah so this is pretty much the end of
15:48 this video I am going to come back and show you guys how I'm going to decorate
15:56 this or yeah decorate it because I'm not going to leave it plain like this but so
16:02 far we love it I absolutely love it I have my TV is tilted a little if any of
16:11 you are concerned about ergonomics because you really don't want to sit
16:16 down and be watching television with your head back or up so it is still good
16:25 for us ergonomically we haven't had an issue at all that's another reason why
16:31 we kind of brought it down and we did not raise it all the way to the top I
16:36 know sometimes you see them like that but we did not want to do that one other
16:40 thing that we're also going to be doing we just got the bracket in today but
16:46 this is our sound bar and we will also be mounting the sound bar right here
16:52 between the fireplace and the TV but this is it for today and I will
16:57 definitely come back and show you guys how I'm going to be decorating it
