3 Ways, to Mind Your Mental Health, Amid the Pandemic.
As fall approaches and the pandemic continues,
NPR spoke with New York University
neuroscientist Wendy Suzuki , about how people can cope with anxiety.
Here are 3 tips she suggests:.
1. Learn to breathe yourself calm.
If you find yourself feeling anxious or angry, why not let your , parasympathetic nervous system help you out.
"The secret is deep breathing," , Suzuki says.
And you can do it wherever you are.
Inhale deeply
while you
count to 4, .
and then
exhale while
you count to 4. .
Repeat until calm.
2. Move your body.
Every time you move your body, it's like you're
giving your brain a wonderful bubble bath
of neurochemicals, including dopamine,
serotonin and noradrenaline, Wendy Suzuki , Neuroscientist
at New York University, via NPR.
3. Connect with others.
Being with other people is a critical part
of maintaining mental health.
It's important to take precautions and keep
an eye on what the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention recommends.
But it's also important to go on vacation, visit your parents, or see a friend you haven't seen in a while
