00:00Hey, we're here in Asia, in the largest country on the continent, the legendary China.
00:06Way up in a mountainous forest habitat.
00:09It's us, the Krat Brothers. I'm Martin.
00:12I'm Chris.
00:14And we're here in China to check out an animal that we've always had so many questions about.
00:22The Red Panda.
00:25This is a very rare and mysterious creature, with only a few thousand left in the wild.
00:32But exactly how many still survive?
00:35Well, one thing's for sure, and there are no questions about this.
00:39The Red Panda is one cute creature.
00:42A Red Panda wrestling match.
00:45Oh, this is awesome.
00:47I never knew Red Pandas were that playful.
00:50Take down in the ferns.
00:52Oh, wow.
00:54He's so good in the trees.
00:56Who knew Red Pandas were such good climbers?
01:00Look at him, sure-footed and agile when he climbs.
01:06And then back down head first.
01:09Impressive.
01:10But what about all the other questions?
01:12Like, is a Red Panda actually a panda?
01:15Like a giant panda?
01:17Or is it mostly related to a raccoon?
01:19Yeah, what animal family does a Red Panda belong to?
01:23And why does the Red Panda always remind me of a lemur?
01:27We're not in Madagascar, we're in China.
01:30What do Red Pandas eat?
01:31And why do they have that reddish-orange fur with those white face markings?
01:35We've got a lot of questions about Red Pandas.
01:38And only a half an hour to answer.
01:40Imagine if we could get up in the trees and climb with Red Pandas.

02:38Red Panda Rescue
02:55How long do the bros want to stay in China for?
02:58Probably forever.
03:00Let's go find them and ask.
03:02Ha ha, we did it!
03:05Yes!
03:07Did what?
03:12All right, I'm going first, bro.
03:16What are you guys doing?
03:18We're going swimming.
03:21Swimming?
03:24In what water?
03:26I'll show you.
03:27This is Blue Diver ready for launch.
03:30Okay, Blue Diver, five seconds to launch.
03:33Five, four, three, two, one, blast off!
03:41Woo-hoo!
03:49Chris, why don't you just walk over there and dive in?
03:53Because this is more fun.
03:56Koki, can you launch me?
03:59Sure, I guess.
04:01Oh, please let me.
04:02I love catapults.
04:03An example of simple but brilliant engineering.
04:07Fine.
04:08Yay!
04:10Green Glider, ready for launch.
04:12Okay, Green Glider, five seconds to launch.
04:16Five, four, three, two, one, take off!
04:23Woo-hoo!
04:25Ha ha!
04:25Uh-oh!
04:27And there goes the water.
04:30Ah!
04:31Uh!
04:32Ow!
04:33Oh!
04:34Oh!
04:41A little red panda!
04:45You're young and cute!
04:48Hey, I've got to get back to the gang.
04:49They're going to be looking for me.
04:57Why are you following me?
04:59You should go to your mom.
05:01Hey, where is your mom?
05:03Are you lost?
05:05Okay, let's do this.
05:06If you're not lost, go home.
05:08If you're lost, follow me.
05:16Yes, Donita, I know that.
05:19And, Zaki, make sure you get me something nice.
05:23And fashionable.
05:26I don't like it any more than you do.
05:28But I have to get Donita a birthday present.
05:32But what?
05:34Let me think.
05:37Well, play my thinking music.
05:42Hmm.
05:43Think, think, think.
05:46Ah!
05:46Ah!
05:47She likes to wear animals as clothes.
05:50Hmm.
05:51How about one of those weasel scarves?
05:54What do they call them?
05:56Okay.
05:57I'll hack into the Wild Kratz Tortuga computers
06:01and see what kind of weasels there are.
06:15Oh, hey, you followed me home.
06:20Okay.
06:21So I guess this means you're lost.
06:26Uh-oh.
06:28The hacking alarm.
06:29Somebody's trying to break into the Tortuga's computer system.
06:35Hack, hack, hack, hack.
06:36Cockity, hack, hack, hack, cock.
06:38Zach, you know I can see you.
06:40What?
06:41Ah, ah.
06:42Well, I must have dialed the wrong number.
06:46Yeah, right.
06:48What's that around your neck?
06:50Oh, this little girl?
06:52This is...
06:52Is that one of those weasel thingy scarves?
06:56What?
06:56A stole?
06:57No, this isn't a stole.
06:59This is...
07:00Never mind.
07:01Goodbye.
07:03He asks questions,
07:04but never sticks around for the answers.
07:09That weasel thingy is called a stole,
07:12and I want that one.
07:14Yes, I'll steal that stole.
07:18I'll steal.
07:19I stole.
07:23I'm so funny.
07:25And dangerous.
07:35Chris?
07:36Hello?
07:38Chris, where are you?
07:40Looked to me out like he was flying towards Japan.
07:44Hey, bro.
07:45What's up, dude?
07:46I'm back at the Tortuga and look who followed me home
07:54We'll be right there
08:01Wow, bro, you found a red panda. Well, I didn't really find her she found me and then she followed
08:08me home
08:10Are you sure that's a red panda?
08:13Yeah, it's a lot smaller than a panda looks more like a raccoon or a fox or a weasel or
08:21a cat
08:24So what family of animals is a red panda most closely related to?
08:29Well, I think I know this I got it
08:37Well, aren't you gonna tell us no you have to guess it'll be more fun that way
08:44Okay, fine. Well, I'm going with bear just a small bear
08:50I'll say the red panda is most closely related to the giant panda because they both have panda in the
08:56name
08:56Nope, that's a trick giant pandas are in the bear family. This girl is not a bear
09:03Oh, I know
09:07Fox she's reddish orange like a fox and her face is kind of dog-like
09:13Yeah, our red panda disagrees. She is not in the dog family
09:18Step aside Jimmy
09:22I'm going with weasel a member of the mustelid family
09:25Red panda totally fits in with a pine martin a badger and a ferret
09:31Oh, nice try there is a lot of variation in the mustelid family from weasels to wolverines to pine martins
09:37to otters
09:38But the red panda doesn't belong there
09:41What about raccoons?
09:45And kinkajus
09:47And kinkajus
09:47And kinkajus
09:49Aha!
09:51Yes, I win! Victory!
09:54A little too quick on the celebrations, bro
09:56Scientists used to think the red pandas belonged to this family, but
10:00Not anymore
10:02Aww, well, what is she then?
10:05Yeah, who's the red panda most closely related to?
10:09Yeah, who?
10:10Okay, I'll show ya
10:13A red panda?
10:15Yes, a red panda is in its very own family
10:20It's in the family Alluridae
10:23It has its own special family made up of just one species
10:26The red panda
10:29Wow!
10:31Awesome!
10:32Yeah, it's a unique species in its own family
10:36And red pandas are not only special, they are rare
10:41Only 10,000 survive in the wild
10:44Uh, I just have one other question
10:46Where'd our red panda go?
10:48Oh!
10:50She's gone!
10:53Oh great!
10:55I don't believe it!
10:56How am I supposed to steal their red panda if they've already lost it?
11:01Those brothers always make things more difficult for me
11:05Wild rats!
11:07She was just here a second ago
11:09Okay, Wild Kratts
11:11Let's split up and find
11:12Oh boy
11:13I didn't even have a chance to give her a name
11:15Let's split up and find
11:17That little lost red panda
11:19To the creature rescue!
11:25I found you!
11:29Yes!
11:30Yes!
11:36Ah!
11:39Ah!
11:47Ah!
11:52Ah!
11:54Ah-ha!
11:54Ah-ha!
11:55Ah-ha!
11:56Hmm.
12:06Hmm.
12:14Oh.
12:21Oh.
12:22Oh.
12:24Why are there bamboo leaves falling on my head?
12:28That's why!
12:30Yeah! Found her!
12:34Well, thank you very much!
12:44Roll out, Jackbots!
12:47Oh!
12:52I didn't mean literally!
12:56Red pandas are so in danger.
12:58We can't afford to lose any of them.
13:00You were lost, now you're found.
13:03Hey.
13:04Why don't we call you Lost and Found?
13:06Oh, yeah! That's a great name for you!
13:08Lost and Found!
13:10And she found some bamboo to eat.
13:12She really likes the tender tips.
13:14She holds it in her paw, like a hand.
13:17You're right, Aviva.
13:19But she doesn't have a thumb like we do.
13:21She has a panda's thumb.
13:24The red panda has a special wrist bone that acts like a thumb
13:27and allows the panda to hold bamboo stalks.
13:30So, she has five fingers wrapped around the stalk,
13:33plus a hidden wrist bone in her fur that acts like a thumb.
13:38A panda's thumb.
13:39Well, we found Lost and Found,
13:41and found out what and how Lost and Found eats,
13:43but she's still lost and her mom has to be found.
13:45Okay, why don't we do this?
13:47Martin and I will go out into the forest to find Mom,
13:50while the gang babysits Lost and Found.
13:53Let's go, bro!
13:55I like this plant!
13:57Mmm!
13:58I mean, really like it!
14:03Perfect!
14:04No brothers means no creature powers!
14:07So, this will be even easier than I thought!
14:12That little red weasel-y thingy is as good as mine!
14:22The Wildcrat's alarm!
14:25Yoo-hoo!
14:27It's Zack!
14:28Call the Crap Rose!
14:32No!
14:34Disable all communications!
14:38What do you think you're doing?
14:40Today, I'm looking to steal a stool!
14:43I want that!
14:45Huh?
14:50No!
14:53The rest of you Zackbots, round them up!
14:59Oh, hey!
15:00Die!
15:01Oh!
15:02I didn't mean literally!
15:04I mean, just put them together and put an energy cage over them so they won't bother us!
15:12Oh!
15:13Oh!
15:20I have to get this little red animal, that is now going to be a furry scarf, over to Donita
15:26immediately!
15:28Zack, wait!
15:33Oh, no!
15:34I forgot my creature power disc collection!
15:37Don't worry, bro!
15:39We've got mine right here!
15:41Sorry, Martin!
15:42But yours aren't very organized!
15:44What are you talking about?
15:46I know where they all are!
15:47Test me!
15:48Okay!
15:49Peregrine Falcon!
15:54Hmm...
15:54Cheetah!
15:57Dolphin!
16:02Hey!
16:03Just don't call me disorganized!
16:06Okay, fine, Martin!
16:07But I still want to get my collection!
16:09Maybe we'll both need to activate the same creature power at the same time!
16:13Oh, good point!
16:15I'm with you, dude!
16:17Sorry I can't stay and chat, but I have a present to wrap!
16:24It's Blue Boy and Green Guy!
16:27Retreat!
16:27Retreat!
16:29Zack!
16:30Martin!
16:31Chris!
16:33Hi!
16:34Hey, Zack!
16:35What do you think you're doing with Lost and Found?
16:38And why have you thrown an energy net over our friends?
16:43Ah!
16:44Form a protective circle!
16:48No!
16:49Form a protective circle with me inside it!
16:55Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
16:56I've got an idea!
17:00I have hidden the little red weasel thingy!
17:04You're way off there, Zack!
17:05She is called a red panda!
17:07And a red panda is in its own unique family, a Luridae!
17:10Oh, who cares?
17:11Because it's gonna be Donita's scarf soon!
17:14No way, Zack!
17:15We are not gonna let that happen!
17:17Oh, yeah?
17:19I've hidden it in one of my Zackbots!
17:22Good luck finding it!
17:24Fly, Zackbot!
17:25Fly!
17:26Back to my plane!
17:27Ha!
17:30Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!
17:33Hurry!
17:34Hurry!
17:36We can't let those bots get away!
17:40Hmm!
17:41Whoa!
17:42Can't forget this again!
17:44We gotta get outta this cage!
17:48How?!
17:51Hmm...
17:51Jimmy, if you set your controller to 10 nanohertz,
17:54That will disrupt the sine wave of Zack's energy net.
17:57Okay.
18:04Phew. Zap out.
18:07It worked.
18:10Hello, Zack. Remember us?
18:13Ah, I have an appointment. Bye-bye.
18:20Whoa.
18:20Whoa.
18:22Sure hope the guys can catch those Zackbots.
18:25They will.
18:28Zackbots, 12 o'clock.
18:33We're getting on them.
18:36We've got to find the right Zackbots before they make it back to Zack's blade.
18:40We've got to save Lost and Found.
18:43Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
18:45Yeah, I'm thinking it's time to bring in some creature powers.
18:54Cool to stem those monkeys.
18:56Two o'clock.
19:00Activate creature power.
19:09Ah-ha.
19:25Gotcha.
19:31Another time feat that can grab come in handy.
19:38Empty.
19:39Ah.
19:39Some other Zackbot has my red panda friend.
19:44Hut!
19:49Phew.
19:51One down.
19:52Got to intercept another Zackbot and find Lost and Found.
19:59Yes!
20:02My creature power discs are all organized and ready to go.
20:06I've just got to find an animal to touch.
20:09Hmm.
20:10There's a black and white pattern up ahead.
20:13I know who that is.
20:16Giant panda.
20:21Activate giant panda power.
20:29This is a new one.
20:31Never driven a bus bike with creature powers before.
20:34Good thing this panda power suit comes with a panda thumb.
20:37Designed for holding bamboo stalks, it also works for handlebars.
20:41And there's my target.
20:43There's my target.
20:48There's my target.
20:49There's my target.
20:49Ha-ha!
21:02Empty.
21:03No red panda here.
21:06Whoa!
21:07Come on, Chris!
21:08The last one's getting away.
21:11I got to lose my target.
21:20Yes, yes, you made it!
21:22What took you so long?
21:30What are you doing?
21:32Get in here!
21:39Not if I can help it.
21:44Get off my jackpot!
21:49Grab the arms, Chris!
21:51Okay, Martin.
21:53I'm on it.
22:04Oh, hey, lost and found.
22:07We found you.
22:09Oh, did you have a fun ride?
22:12Oh, no!
22:14Now I've got nothing for Donita's birthday, and it's all your fault, you, you wildcats!
22:24That's wildcats!
22:32Well, it took all day, but we finally found Mom.
22:39And in the meantime, we learned...
22:41More than enough to get me going on programming red panda powers!
22:44Yeah, for starters, red pandas are a great-looking creature with that red-orange fur, plus the white face marking,
22:53and rings on the tail.
22:56They're a pretty agile tree climber.
22:58Oh, and they like to climb down tree trunks head first.
23:04They like to eat lots of bamboo!
23:07And red pandas are very rare, with only 10,000 living in the wild.
23:12And they are in their own unique family, Iluridane.
23:16So because they're so unique, it might take me a while to program this particular red panda power suit.
23:23Red panda powers?
23:25Oh, don't worry.
23:27We're not going anywhere.
23:28We can wait.
23:30See, I told you they'd want to stay in wild China forever.
23:40So this is where red pandas like to live, in a nice forest with plenty of bamboo.
23:47This is the bamboo they prefer.
23:49It's a short, grassy, bushy bamboo.
23:52Red pandas really like the youngest and most tender shoots.
23:56Then you have the giant pandas who like the much thicker, much taller bamboo.
24:01Giant pandas can crunch through any part of the bamboo.
24:05In fact, a reason the giant panda has such a large, round head is because they have large jaw muscles
24:11to crunch through bamboo stalks.
24:13And the crazy thing is, bamboo is a grass.
24:15Now this might kind of seem like a grass, but those huge tree-like bamboo stalks that giant pandas like,
24:23that's a grass too.
24:25And right here in China, you've got two amazing species, the red panda and the giant panda.
24:31Making their living eating bamboo.
24:33And since bamboo grows in different parts of the world, you can see different kinds of bamboo eaters all around
24:41the globe.
24:42In Madagascar, we saw something similar, where the smaller golden bamboo lemur preferred to eat the more tender shoots.
24:50But the greater bamboo lemur, who is bigger, could chew through the toughest stalks.
24:55But all bamboo eaters have something in common.
24:58The ability to digest bamboo and deal with the cyanide poison bamboo has to protect itself.
25:04Digesting bamboo is hard work.
25:07And to do it, you've got to take a lot of naps.
25:10You've got to love the red pandas' loungy napping pose.
25:14Now red pandas sleep up in the trees, and they sleep a lot.
25:19They can sleep half the day that way, digesting the bamboo they eat.
25:23But when they get up, red pandas are surprisingly active.
25:28More active than I ever thought.
25:30Red pandas run.
25:31Red pandas climb.
25:33Red pandas wrestle and play.
25:36And then, of course, they fuel up by eating bamboo shoots.
25:40So, those bamboo eaters are a pretty cool bunch.
25:43So, keep your eyes peeled for bamboo eaters all around the world.
25:47Keep on creature adventuring.
25:48We'll see you on the Creature Trail.
