In an Australian-first hydrogen has been produced from brown coal in Gippsland, raising hopes it will one day play a part in the country's clean energy policy. It's part of a Japanese-funded project to test whether hydrogen can be exported and while there are still some large hurdles to clear to make it viable, the job-starved residents of the Latrobe Valley hope it's a sign of things to come.
