События детективного сериала «Алекс Лютый» разворачиваются в середине 70-х годов прошлого века в Советском Союзе. На собственной даче в Подмосковье находят убитым известного писателя, который готовится к изданию очередной книги о знаменитом гитлеровском палаче Алексе Лютом. Имя убийцы, как и обстоятельства смерти мужчины, остаются неизвестными. Свет на произошедшее проливает последний звонок убитого, который он сделал своему старому товарищу, ныне – начальнику специального отдела МВД генералу Сомову, специализирующемуся на розыске и поимке военных преступников. Оказывается, Лютый, которого все считали погибшим, чудом выжил, и именно он убил писателя, выставившего историю всей его жизни в нелицеприятном свете. Сомов поручает столь громкое дело своему лучшему следователю Егору Сухареву, а в помощники ему направляет нового сотрудника специального отдела, лейтенанта Касьянова.

The name of the killer, as well as the circumstances of the death of the man, remain unknown. The incident was cast by the last call of the murdered man, which he made to his old comrade, now - to the head of the special department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Somov, specializing in the search and capture of war criminals. It turns out that Lyuty, whom everyone considered dead, miraculously survived, and it was he who killed the writer, who exposed the history of his life in an unflattering light. Somov entrusts such a high-profile case to his best investigator, Yegor Sukharev, and sends a new officer of the special department, Lieutenant Kasyanov, to assist him.
