Chicago Restaurants Offered Free Lunches After School Meal Programs Were Suspended

On Monday, Chicago Public Schools made the decision to suspend its free meal program for the day.They made the decision after ongoing protests over the killing of George Floyd by a police officer in Minneapolis.Unfortunately, Dr. Janice Jackson also announced the one-day suspension of the "Grab and Go" meal program.This closed the 300 meal pickup sites that have served about 13 million meals since school was canceled.But the students who relied on meals from the program did not go without on Monday.Several restaurants stepped up to offer free meals to local kids.Meal pickups will resume Tuesday and, as of this writing, no additional interruptions to the service are anticipated
