In order to give a tribute, to the legendary Bengali film maker Satyajit Ray, on his 100th birthday our channel Dopamine going to make a collection of videos to bring to you a bunch of lesser known facts about him based on the book Satyajit Ray: The Inner Eye by Andrew Robinson & published by IB Tauris.
Satyajit Ray, (born May 2, 1921, Calcutta, India—died April 23, 1992, Calcutta), Bengali motionpicture director, writer, and illustrator who brought the Indian cinema to world recognition with Pather Panchali (1955; The Song of the Road) and its two sequels, known as the Apu Trilogy. As a director Ray was noted for his humanism, his versatility, and his detailed control over his films and their music. He was one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century. Ray was the author of numerous short stories and novellas, and in fact writing, rather than filmmaking, became his main source of income. His stories have been translated and published in Europe, the United States, and elsewhere. This is the first video of the series and depicts mostly the childhood life of Satyajit Ray.
