Zoom Sued for Allegedly
Sharing Users' Personal Data Zoom Video Communications has seen a spike
in popularity from the recent work-from-home
movement due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The company is now facing scrutiny and lawsuits over its
security practices and its handling of users' personal data. A New York prosecutor is
probing the popular teleconferencing company
over its questionable security practices. Zoom is also facing a lawsuit in California for allegedly
sharing users' personal data to outside companies. Zoom allegedly gave information to
companies like Facebook without
notifying users that it was doing so. The lawsuit claims that Zoom gave information such as
when users logged on to Zoom, the type of device used
and the device's unique advertising identifier. Zoom officials acknowledged its data sharing in blog posts
and said they have changed the practice.
