Electric Vehicles Pose a Threat to Auto Jobs

Electric Vehicles Pose
a Threat to Auto Jobs.
Electric vehicles require
about 30 percent less labor
to build than traditional cars.
The job cuts will occur primarily at
auto assembly plants where engines,
transmissions and other parts are built.
With automakers still in the process of ramping up
electric vehicle production, unions are looking for
ways to anticipate major cuts.
The challenge is great, but it has to be overcome if the right conditions are created now. Above all, companies must ensure that employees do not get knocked over by this change. , IG Metall Union Chairman Jörg Hofmann, via statement.
Some unions have already taken action in
preventing automakers from outsourcing,
though those contracts will only run for
the next four years
