Animal bones are not the typical material you might associate with jewelry — but one artist in Ray, Michigan, is proving that they can be beautiful. Deanna Abita creates striking pieces of jewelry using bones she finds at the sides of roads and in woodland areas. The self-confessed scavenger says the bones she uses are ethically sourced, meaning no animals are harmed for the sake of her work. Her designs are made from bones such as coyote ribs and raccoon vertebrae. Her handmade earrings, bracelets, and necklaces are available to purchase on her Etsy shop, MalikaMorbid. Deanna says her work isn't about shock value but rather about creating something beautiful out of something that would normally be considered ugly or tragic.
