In Hinduism, making Rangoli at the courtyard or doorway is considered very auspicious and it is seen to be associated with the happiness and prosperity of the house. हिन्दू धर्म में आंगन या द्वार पर रंगोली बनाना बेहद शुभ माना जाता है और इसे घर की सुख-समृद्धि से जोड़कर देखा जाता है। दीपावली के मौके पर इसका महत्व और भी बढ़ जाता है। यही कारण है कि दशहरे से लेकर दीपावली तक हर दिन घरों में द्वार पर रंगोली सजाई जाती है। लेकिन इस का महत्व सिर्फ साज-सज्जा या धार्मिक स्तर पर ही नहीं, बल्कि वैज्ञानिक स्तर पर भी है।
