Some have called his animations “ugly,” but Wong Ping believes that ugly can also be beautiful.

Wong’s surreal animated shorts capture the feeling of helplessness among Hong Kong’s youth and the absurdities of everyday life. His work has been shown at the Guggenheim, New Museum, and Kunsthalle Basel.

Filled with dark humor and wit, his films tell wildly imaginative and disturbing stories, including the account of a man who watches his wife work as a prostitute and a Pinnochio-like “emo nose” that feeds on negative energy.
