At least seven inmates dead in Guatemala prison shooting

At least seven inmates were killed and more than 10 wounded in a shooting inside a Guatemala prison on Tuesday (May 7).

Footage shows police officers at the scene outside Pavon prison, situated on the outskirts of Guatemala City.

Dead bodies wrapped in white sheets lie on the floor inside the penitentiary centre later in the video.

The shooting broke out following a fight between two inmates.

Prisoners had control of the facility for eight hours before the police managed to take over the centre, agencies reported.

Pavon prison is one of the most populated in Guatemala, housing at least 4,000 prisoners.
