Trump Bemoans Obama Got Nobel Peace Prize After '15 Seconds' But 'I'll Probably Never Get It'

President Trump held a media event on Friday over border wall funding.
President Trump has complained that former President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize after "15 seconds" but he'll "probably never get it."
Trump made the remarks Friday during a Rose Garden press conference where he took credit for the U.S.'s improved relationship with North Korea and its leader Kim Jong-un.
The president said: "I have a very good relationship with Kim Jong Un. And I've done a job. In fact, I think I can say this: Prime Minister [Shinzo] Abe of Japan gave me the most beautiful copy of a letter that he sent to the people who give out a thing called the Nobel Prize. He said, 'I have nominated you…' or 'Respectfully, on behalf of Japan, I am asking them to give you the Nobel Peace Prize.' I said, 'Thank you.' Many other people feel that way too. I'll probably never get it, but that's okay."
"They gave it to Obama," Trump added. "He didn't even know what he got it for. He was there for about 15 seconds and he got the Nobel Prize. He said, 'Oh, what did I get it for?' With me, I probably will never get it."
Obama won the prize in 2009 just nine months after taking office.
Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Nobel Committee, said at the time: "Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future."
His winning the award was unexpected to many given his short tenure in the White House.
"Well, this is not how I expected to wake up this morning," Obama remarked at the time. "I am both surprised and deeply humbled by the decision of the Nobel Committee."
"I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations," Obama added.
