Trump Demands California Return Federal Funds After 'Green' Bullet Train Project 'Disaster'

President Trump lashed out at California on Wednesday over the scaled-back high-speed train project.

California Governor Gavin Newsom fired back on Wednesday after President Trump slammed the state's high-speed train project.
"California has been forced to cancel the massive bullet train project after having spent and wasted many billions of dollars," Trump posted on Twitter. "They owe the Federal Government three and a half billion dollars. We want that money back now. Whole project is a 'green' disaster!"
Newsom promptly reacted to the tweet.
"Fake news. We're building high-speed rail, connecting the Central Valley and beyond," Newsom wrote. "This is CA's money, allocated by Congress for this project. We're not giving it back. The train is leaving the station — better get on board! (Also, desperately searching for some wall $$??)."
"Plans for a high-speed train between San Francisco and Los Angeles face an uncertain future after Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday that he would focus on building only the Central Valley segment of the rail line," the San Francisco Chronicle reported earlier on Wednesday.
The Twitter exchange comes days after the Daily Beast noted that Newsom will "pull back all National Guard troops who have been deployed to the Mexican border, saying his state will play no part in Donald Trump's 'manufactured crisis.'"
