1 The Hindu God of death is recognized by the names Yama, Yamaraj or Imra.

2 Few refer to Yamaraj as death himself, who holds the responsibility of restrainer

3 Hindu mythological scriptures state that elements like; Kala (time), Jwara (fever), Vyadhi (disease), Krodha (anger) and Asuya (jealousy) assist him.

4 It is mentioned in the Vishnu Purana that his parents are the sun-god Surya and Sanjna.

5 Vedas also confirm that Yama is said to have been the first mortal who died.

6 Eventually, he was also the first to proceed to the Pitralok and this made him the ruler of the deceased (Pretaraja).

7 Rigveda indicated that Yamaraja helped mankind to find a place to live in.

8 In a few scriptures, he is specified as the lord of justice, who is associated with Dharma.

9 He is identified as the judge of the souls on the basis of the deeds they performed in their lifetime.
