1 Vaikuntha Ekadashi is one of the important and auspicious days dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu.

2 It occurs in the Hindu calendar, in the month of Margashirsha that falls between December and January.

3 Hindus believe that Vaikuntha Ekadashi is the day when heaven's doors are wide open for all.

4 It is said that Lord Vishnu instructed to open the gate of his abode for two demons in spite of their being against him.

5 The Vishnu Purana states that fasting on Vaikuntha Ekadashi is equivalent to fasting on the all the remaining days of Ekadashi.

6 This day is celebrated in most of the temple where a door-like structure is made for devotees to walk through.

7 The Padma Purana has narrated the origin of this day and related it to the female energy of Lord Vishnu called goddess Vaishnavi.

8 It is said in this scripture that she slew the demon Muran to protect the Devas on this specific day.

9 Impressed by her courageous act, Lord Vishnu named her 'Ekadashi' and also dedicated a specific day of Margashirsha month to her.

10 Lord Vishnu even gave her the boon that those who worship on this day of her victory would reach 'Vaikunth'.
