Varsity unions threaten to paralyse public unis starting Monday
  • 5 years ago
As talks between striking doctors and government fail to make any headway, public university workers have now threatened to down their tools starting Monday.

This follows a meeting of the Inter-Public Universities Consultative Council Forum with leaders of the Universities Academic Staff Union, the Kenya Universities Staff Union and Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers.

KUSU General Secretary Charles Mukhwaya explains that the Collective Bargaining Agreement they entered into six years ago will lapse in a few months time and has told the press that despite their best efforts to engage the relevant authorities, no counter offers have been forthcoming.

He therefore says that pending any intervention between now and midnight Sunday, members of KUDHEHA will go first in downing their tools.
