AG Nominee William Barr: 'I Don't Subscribe To This Lock Her Up Stuff'

William Barr appeared for his confirmation hearing on Tuesday.

Attorney General nominee William Barr on Tuesday rejected one of the demands that dominated President Trump's 2016 campaign.  Barr said during his confirmation hearing that he does not "subscribe to this 'lock her up' stuff."  That is, of course, a reference to the chant that targeted then-opponent Hillary Clinton and called for her incarceration. Barr noted that, at large, he is not in favor of jailing political opponents, nor is he comfortable with opening up investigations of them.  The comments came after Senator Richard Blumenthal asked Barr to clarify his claim that the Clinton Foundation "was more deserving of investigation than Russian collusion." Barr replied, in part: "It was the kind of thing that I think should have been looked at from a tax standpoint, whether it was complying with the foundation rules, the way a corporate foundation is, and I thought there were some things there that merited some attention, but I wasn't thinking of it in terms of a criminal investigation."
