British lawmakers voted 432-202 against Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit proposal on January 16. The worst government defeat in recent UK history plunges the Brexit process into chaos only 10 weeks before the country is due to leave the European Union.
Parliament immediately went on to debate an opposition motion of confidence in May’s leadership. Lawmakers have also asked May for a backup proposal but so far she refused to offer a “plan B”.
If no proposals are approved by March 29, the UK could face a “no-deal Brexit” and related diplomatic and economic chaos.
