Successful Full Face Transplant Completed at New York Hospital The surgery was performed on Cameron Underwood, a 26-year-old man who suffered the injuries as a result of a self-inflicted accidental gunshot. Doctors say Underwood lost most of his lower jaw, teeth and nose. He also damaged his maxillary and palate. A team of over 100 medical professionals at New York University Langone completed the surgery. The procedure, which was performed back on January 5, 2018, lasted 25 hours. NYU Langone specialists say they have performed several follow-up procedures on Underwood since then.
