Google Maps to Alert Drivers Over Collisions, Speed Traps The new features let drivers submit data regarding incidents they encounter while commuting, such as accidents and slowdowns. It will also alert fellow Maps users to their presence. The add-ons follow the rollout of a 'Group Planning Feature' released in September. Many predicted Google would implement the 'Collisions' feature after the acquisition of traffic app Waze in 2013. User submitted data is considered to be a big reason why Waze became popular enough to be bought out. There's no word yet if they will roll out everywhere or if Google is just testing it out.
