In Opioid-Ravaged America, Teachers Are Acting As First Responders

In West Virginia's southernmost city of War, public school teachers are fighting their own war--against the opioid crisis. According to the Huffington Post, teachers say they've had to put teaching on the back burner for other, more pressing matters--such as keeping track of students displaced by fragmented families, the foster care system, and grinding poverty. Middle school teacher Greg Cruey says not many of his students have the luxury of dreaming about the long term.
