First lady Melania Trump made a supportive statement about the Senate's confirmation of now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh but will not be attending his ceremonial swearing-in event on Monday, reports USA Today. "The first lady regrets that she will not be able to celebrate with the Kavanaugh family on such a special evening, but she has a long-standing prior commitment she was unable to change at the last minute," Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump's spokesperson, said in a statement. Details about the scheduling conflict were not given.
Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court by a 50-48 Senate vote on Saturday.  The event marking his ascendancy will be held on Monday evening at the White House, notes Fox News.
