'Male Menopause' Now Affecting Younger Men An increasing number of younger men are struggling with diminished libido and erectile dysfunction. The culprit seems to be
low testosterone. Andropausem or "male menopause," is a gradual decrease in testosterone over time, usually between the ages of 40 to 60. Other symptoms include insomnia, muscle loss, weight gain, depression and loss of bone density. Lifestyle factors including stress, energy level, genetics, age, nutrition and medications can all influence early andropause. As testosterone is affected by sleep, men with low testosterone should monitor their sleep habits and avoid using electronic devices before bed. Men should also be regularly tested for nutritional deficiencies, especially zinc and vitamin D.
