Tropical Storm Gordon to Land in the US as a Hurricane Tropical Storm Gordon is forecasted to make landfall as a hurricane in the Mississippi Valley Tuesday night. A state of emergency has been declared in the states of Louisiana and Mississippi. Gordon took form as a tropical storm near the Florida Keys Monday morning. It went on to blast South Florida with high winds and hours of heavy rains. The National Hurricane Center has called the storm "life threatening." Forecasters also warn that tornadoes are possible in Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Gordon is expected to dump 4 to 8 inches of rain over the western Florida Panhandle and southwest Alabama. Southern and central Mississippi, eastern Louisiana and southern Arkansas are expected to see that amount of rain as well.
