How to Make Your Own Coffee and Beer Mug Decals with Polymer Clay and UV Curable Resins

www.impressiveputty.com Making molds is easy and we hope you’ll want to try it after you see how it’s done. This golfer decal will look great duplicated on to this beer mug and also my coffee cup.
I’m using some previously used ImPRESSive Putty. I put it in the microwave for about 25 seconds to soften it.
While that is happening let me show you the ImPRESSive Putty. Several sizes, starting at 1.5 oz, then 6 oz, shown here and the 1 lb. It also comes in 5 pounders. Use ImPRESSive Putty because it is reusable, easy, and works very well.
As you can see the Putty is melted, but it is a little too hot to touch, so give it another couple minutes.
Now we are ready to go. We just take a handful of the ImPRESSive Putty. Don’t worry about wasting any, you can always re-soften it for another mold. The ImPRESSive Putty is rolled and smoothed out with your hands. Try to smooth out any lines as they may show in the mold. It’s also a good idea to make the putty larger than your object you’re duplicating so you can just press it on. Like so.
Let this mold cool to solidify. In the freezer, this takes about 10 minutes and you’re ready for casting. The clear mug turns out to be nice as it allows us to show you how the Reusable Putty conforms around your object you are duplicating.
Pull the mold off. Tada…There it is. Ready to go.
Our first piece is going to be with polymer clay. We’re pushing the clay in and making sure all the crevices are filled. I’ll speed this part up a bit…
A nice technique for polymer clay, epoxy putty, and fondant is to roll the casting clay back on to itself. It makes a smooth back edge that looks great.
I made a second golfer decal for my coffee mug. And then I I cooked the polymer clay directly on the glass of both mugs so I knew it would conform to the shape. I used super glue to adhere to the mug after the polymer clay was hardened.
As I was finishing this decal off, we had the question of how the ImPRESSive Putty works with UV curable resin, so I also made a clear golfer decal with a UV curable resin. Works great.
