Hurricane Lane turns waterfall into raging cascade of floodwaters

Tourists and locals saw quite a site when they visited the Rainbow Falls in Hilo, Hawaii, on August 23.

This video, taken that afternoon, shows the normally calm and pristine waterfall raging with floodwaters.

Hurricane Lane, forecast to make landfall in the state, lashed the Big Island with nearly 20 inches of rain in 24 hours. Shelters were opened up on Big Island and in Maui, Molokai and Lanai to house evacuated residents.

The hurricane was downgraded to a Category 3 storm later in the day.
