Video shows floodwaters raging on bridge as Hurricane Lane edges closer to Big Island

++CLIENTS PLEASE NOTE: THIS VIDEO HAS BEEN LOOPED++ Hurricane Lane moved closer to Hawaii on August 23, causing mudslides, torrential rain and flash floods across the island.

This video, shared to Facebook by Chad Wasserman, shows a bridge on Akolea Road in Hilo completely flooded.

Hurricane Lane, forecast to make landfall in the state, lashed the Big Island with nearly 20 inches of rain in 24 hours. Shelters were opened up on Big Island and in Maui, Molokai and Lanai to house evacuated residents.

The hurricane was downgraded to a Category 3 storm later in the day.
